Olena Meets with the DRH Team at Queen's House, LSE

This week, Olena visited London, UK for our weekly UBC DRH meeting, and got a special tour of the British Museum.

DRH and Pieoneers Team Meeting in London, UK

Pieoneers CEO Olena and UBC researcher Willis Monroe just luckily happened to be visiting London at the same time! Since fellow DRH teammates Michael and Rachel are both based out of the LSE, the team got to have their weekly meeting in person, at the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science in the Queen's House at the London School of Economics.

UBC DRH: A Web Platform for Experts and Researchers

The UBC Database of Religious History is a project created in collaboration with: The University of British Columbia, The London School of Economics, and Harvard and Stanford Universities. It’s a religion database spanning thousands of years. Experts contribute knowledge in the form of an entry, and fellow researchers can browse entries on the platform. Powerful, built-in analytic and data visualization tools allow this knowledge to be accessed in entirely new and intuitive ways, combining maps, tables, date ranges and more.

The DRH began as an initiative of the Cultural Evolution of Religion Research Consortium (CERC), based at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. It now continues as an independent academic initiative, still based at UBC but involving partners and collaborators from all over the world.

Official Technology Partner: From Design to Development

Pieoneers is the technology partner for the DRH, providing web development services in Python, Django, and React. As their partner, Pieoneers also helps the DRH with their product development, by brainstorming new ideas and features, and testing possible solutions by creating visual or functional prototypes. When usability is at stake, such quick prototyping allows the DRH team to pick the best solutions.

A Special Visit to the British Museum

Willis Monroe is currently working at the British Museum, researching ancient Babylonian clay tablets for his upcoming book. He took Olena on a special guided tour. Matching the broken clay pieces is like putting together an ancient puzzle in a foreign language, and Olena enjoyed hearing the ancient sounds come to life as Willis read the tablets aloud.

All in all it was a very special visit, and we are so honoured to have been a part of such an innovative project for the last fours years, and to continue to be involved in their exciting evolution.
